Nigel Bristow Statement on Voting Rights and NC A&T

I’ve been made aware of concerns regarding proposals to reduce early-voting polling locations in Guilford County — including the potential removal of North Carolina A&T State University as a voting site.
Let me be clear: any effort that makes it harder for eligible voters to participate in our democracy is wrong. Period.
NC A&T is not just a university — it is a historic pillar of civic leadership, democratic participation, and Black excellence. It is the home of students who carry the legacy of the Greensboro Four, whose courage helped change the course of this nation. That history is not symbolic. It is alive. And it demands respect.
A&T’s students, faculty, and staff are voters. They deserve convenient, accessible, and fair opportunities to cast their ballots just like every other North Carolinian. Removing or reducing access to voting at one of the largest HBCUs in the country sends exactly the wrong message — especially in a moment when young people and communities of color are already facing growing barriers to participation.
I will always stand for:
Expanding voting access, not restricting it
Protecting historically marginalized voters
Honoring the legacy of those who fought for the right to vote by ensuring today’s voters can use it
Local and state election boards have a responsibility to ensure voting sites are placed where people actually live, learn, and work — not where participation is easiest to suppress.
As your next Member of Congress, I will fight for federal protections that prevent this kind of voter suppression from happening anywhere in our district or our state.
Democracy works best when more voices are heard — not fewer.

Candidate for U.S. Congress, North Carolina’s 9th District
